The Sweet Treat Solution

You have an exam coming up and you know you need to study. So go study. But you can’t. You can’t drag yourself off of that comfy sofa, pull yourself away from the telly and get your books out. I know how you feel.

Motivation is a prime problem among students. Many say that once they start studying, the job gets a bit easier. BUT … how do you get yourself to your desk in the first place?

This is something I often struggle with and I’ve found a solution that works wonders for me and I’m hoping it might help some of you as well.

In the days leading up to the exam, go and buy yourself something really yummy. It can be whatever you find absolutely scrumptious, your favourite chocolate bar, a cake, a pack of double stuffed Oreos or, if you’re a meat lover, a mouthwatering steak. But don’t eat it! I know it’s hard, but you need to tell yourself that you can’t eat your treat until you’ve finished all the studying that needs to be done.

I understand that this seems like a pointless exercise, but you’ll be surprised how that little bit of extra motivation can help you get a lot more done, in a lot less time.

Every time you start to get bored and consider leaving the books until tomorrow, subconsciously that sweet treat will push you forward without you even realising. This probably sounds ridiculous, just try it though before you dismiss the idea. I promise you you’ll be surprised.

And the best part is that it makes the day of the exam a bit less depressing. An hour before the ordeal, when others are stressing and frantically trying to do some last minutes studying, you’ll be tucking into the treat of your choosing. The stomach wants what the stomach wants!
